Reverse description Central device features the imperial arms of Brazil: a quartered shield bearing the Cross of the Order of Christ and horizontal stripes of the House of Braganza, set upon a celestial sphere, all surmounted by the Imperial Brazilian Crown rendered in high relief. The armorial shield is flanked on either side by an upright laurel branch. The encircling legend 'IN HOC SIGNO VINCES' (In this sign thou shalt conquer) appears in the upper periphery, separated from the central design by a plain inner border, with a toothed outer rim.
