Obverse description Central field displays the Portuguese royal coat of arms, featuring the escutcheon charged with five inescutcheons in saltire, each bearing five bezants, set within an ornate cartouche with baroque scrollwork mantling. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown with arched band and fleurs-de-lis. The circular legend MARIA·II·DEI·GRATIA runs along the periphery, read from lower right to upper left as oriented on the die.

Reverse description Central design features a large Roman numeral X denoting the denomination, flanked by two rosette or six-petalled flower ornaments at either side, all enclosed within a tied laurel wreath.
