Obverse description The Portuguese royal arms displayed on an ornate baroque cartouche, surmounted by an open royal crown with fleurs-de-lis and orbs. The shield features the traditional quintas and castles of Portugal, flanked by elaborate scrolled mantling decorated with floral sprigs. The circular legend reads DEI GRATIA MARIA II, separated by a dot at the base, running along the toothed border.

Reverse description The numeral 10 rendered in ornate script occupies the centre of the field, with the date 1843 inscribed immediately below, all enclosed within a laurel wreath tied at the base and surmounted by a floral ornament. The circumferential legend PORTUGALLÆ ET ALGARBIORUM REGINA runs around the periphery within a toothed milled border, interrupted by a floral stop at the apex.
