Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle surmounted by a four-arched royal crown, the Roman numeral X denoting the denomination is prominently displayed in the central field, flanked on either side by stylized floral ornaments. The year of issue appears within the same circle, and the surrounding legend reads IOANNES·V•D•P·ET•BRASIL•REX, identifying the issuer as João V, King of Portugal and Brazil. The overall design is characteristic of the early 18th-century Portuguese colonial coinage struck at the Lisbon Mint for circulation in Brazil.
