Wehrmacht Reichskreditkassenscheine and these small Behelfszahlungsmittel — auxiliary payment certificates — were issued specifically for use by German military personnel in occupied territories, keeping occupation currency separate from the domestic Reichsmark supply. The 10 Reichspfennig denomination is among the lowest in the series, and its fractional value made it almost purely a transactional convenience note rather than a store of value.

These circulated across a sprawling range of occupied zones, from Western Europe to North Africa, which means surviving examples can carry handling wear consistent with very different climates and conditions. The series ran through the final years of the war with no issuing bank — the Wehrmacht itself was the authority, an unusual arrangement that reflected the military's parallel economic administration of conquered territories.
