Obverse description The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date legend, flanked by crossed rifles and swords with a laurel wreath encircling the entire device. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 10 QUETZALES appears in large raised letters along the lower rim. The scroll bears the inscriptions LIBERTAD and 15 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1821, commemorating the date of Central American independence. The design is rendered in high relief with finely detailed engraving throughout the field.

Reverse description A resplendent quetzal bird (Pharomachrus mocinno), Guatemala's national symbol, is depicted in full flight with wings dramatically spread and its elongated tail feathers sweeping gracefully downward in a sweeping curve across the lower field. The Temple of the Great Jaguar (Temple I) at the Tikal archaeological site is visible in the left background, rendered in fine detail amid surrounding tropical foliage. The legend EL QUETZAL appears in two lines to the right of the bird, with the date 1995 below, all within the right field. The composition is dynamic and naturalistic, with exceptional relief work highlighting the bird's plumage.
