Essai pieces issued for the Banque du Liban in the early 1970s were produced in Paris — Lebanon's coinage had been tied to French minting infrastructure since the Mandate period, and that relationship persisted well into independence. This particular trial piece predates the catastrophic civil war by just three years; circulation coinage of this type was still being produced in earnest when fighting broke out in 1975 and effectively collapsed normal monetary operations for over a decade.
