Obverse description Central device depicting the Sudanese coat of arms: a secretary bird with wings spread wide, facing right, clutching a shield bearing national symbols on its breast, with a scroll above bearing the Arabic legend 'النصر لنا' (Victory is Ours). The bird stands upon a ribbon scroll inscribed in Arabic with the name of the republic. The Hijri year 1398 appears to the right of the device and the Gregorian year 1978 to the left, both rendered in Eastern Arabic numerals. A fine reeded border frames the entire composition.
