| Obverse description | Central device depicts a galloping dromedary camel moving to the left, bearing an armed rider dressed in traditional Sudanese attire and carrying a rifle. Rocky outcroppings appear in the lower left and right fields, suggesting a desert landscape. The design occupies most of the field, with the rim bordered by a continuous milled bead. Below the central device, the dual dating appears in Arabic numerals in the lower field: the Islamic Hijri year at right and the Gregorian year at left, separated by a dash. |

These pieces were struck in the immediate aftermath of Jaafar Nimeiry's May 1969 coup, which ousted the civilian government and installed the Revolutionary Command Council. Sudan's coinage was rapidly redesigned to shed the symbols of the old regime, and this issue reflects that transitional moment — old denominational structures retained, political iconography overhauled.
