Obverse description The upper centre of the note is occupied by the Royal Bank of Scotland armorial vignette, showing the royal coat of arms flanked by a unicorn and a lion, with a crowned portrait of George I at centre, all rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The denomination TEN appears in decorative letterpress panels at upper left and right, with an elaborate guilloche scroll border running down the left margin. Serial numbers appear at upper left and right, with the manuscript date, place of issue (Edinburgh), and two manuscript signatures of bank officers inscribed in the lower portion.
