Obverse description Central device depicts the Sudanese national emblem, a secretary bird with wings displayed, perched upon and clutching a Mahdist shield, with a scrolled ribbon at its breast bearing the Arabic legend of the state name. A banner above the eagle's head carries an Arabic inscription. The denomination appears to the left in Arabic numerals (١٠ جنيهات) and to the right in Latin script (Ls. 10). The dual dates AH 1398 and AD 1978 are inscribed along the lower field, accompanied by two small countermarks — a hexagon and a bell — visible between the dates. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
