Additional information

The White Horse of Hanover is the ninth release in the Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts series, which drew its ten heraldic figures from the carved wooden beasts that flanked the annexe at Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation. The horse itself derives from the Hanoverian royal arms, brought to Britain through the accession of George I in 1714 — a dynastic link that technically persisted until 1837, when Victoria's accession severed the personal union with Hanover due to Salic law barring female succession there.

The 10 oz format was introduced to the series after strong collector demand for the 1 oz and 2 oz strikes. Mintage on the 10 oz pieces across the Queen's Beasts program was consistently capped well below the smaller denominations.
