| Additional information |
The Yale of Beaufort appears in the Queen's Beasts series as one of ten heraldic supporters drawn from the arms of Elizabeth II's ancestry. The Yale — a mythological creature capable of swiveling its horns independently — was a badge of the Beaufort family, passing through the Tudor line to the House of Windsor. This 2023 issue is posthumous, struck after Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, making it one of the first Queen's Beasts pieces to carry her effigy as a commemorative rather than a regnant portrait.
The series concluded its ten-beast run in 2021 for standard issues; this ten-ounce silver restrike exists partly to satisfy collector demand that the primary series left unmet at that scale.
