Obverse description Dual conjoined effigies of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, depicting Her Majesty at two stages of her reign: an elder portrait to the left and a younger diademed portrait to the right, both rendered in high relief with selective silver frosting against a gilded field. The elder effigy shows the Queen wearing drop earrings and a pearl necklace with an embroidered gown, while the younger effigy wears a tiara and jewelled brooch. The engraver's initials DC appear in the lower left field. The curved legend ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY arcs along the upper rim, with the date 2012 along the lower right.

Additional information

Issued to mark Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee — her 60th year on the throne, a milestone reached by only one other British monarch, Queen Victoria in 1897 — this is among the heaviest gold proof coins in the Channel Islands series, at five troy ounces. The selective plating on a .917 gold substrate is an unusual production choice, layering one gold alloy over another to achieve differentiated surface finishes rather than color contrast with a base metal.
