Obverse description The plain field bears the denomination legend in large Arabic naskh script at centre, reading 'Ten Pounds', flanked below by the Hijri date 1384 to the right and the Gregorian date 1964 to the left. The circular legend around the upper periphery reads 'United Arab Republic' in Arabic naskh script. An ornamental arabesque motif appears at the base of the field. The entire design is enclosed within a denticulated border running along the rim.

Reverse description A detailed relief scene depicts the diversion works of the Aswan High Dam construction, showing the massive dam structure with rushing floodwaters pouring through the opened diversion channel, flanked by rocky escarpments and engineering equipment including a pylon and crane framework. A rising sun with radiating rays appears in the upper field above the scene. The commemorative date '15 May 1964' in Arabic numerals is inscribed along the upper legend, and a two-line Arabic inscription below the central scene reads 'Commemoration of the Diversion of the Nile River'.
