Reverse description A large intaglio reproduction of John Singleton Copley's celebrated 1784 painting 'The Death of Major Peirson' occupies the central field, rendered in red-brown tones and depicting the climactic street battle in St. Helier's Royal Square during the 1781 Battle of Jersey. The denomination '£10' appears at upper right and lower left, with 'Ten Pounds' in serif lettering at lower centre. The inscription crediting the source painting is printed in small text to the lower right of the vignette.
