Obverse description Intaglio vignette of an ancient Cypriot limestone male bust in left profile occupies the left portion of the note, set within a circular guilloche underprint with radiating lines. The coat of arms of Cyprus — a dove with an olive branch above the date 1960, encircled by a wreath — appears within an ornate guilloche rosette to the right. A decorative frieze of stylized animals runs along the top border, flanked by the denomination numeral £10 in corner cartouches. Bilingual issuer inscription in Greek and Turkish is printed at the top centre, with the denomination in both languages below, accompanied by the Governor's signature above the title ΔΙΟΙΚΗΤΗΣ – MÜDÜR.

Reverse description A large intaglio vignette occupies the central field, rendered in finely engraved detail and depicting two birds perched on branches amid wildflowers and tall reeds — identified as the Cyprus Warbler and the Cyprus Pied Wheatear, both endemic species. A multicoloured guilloche underprint with pastel hues of rose, blue, and yellow fills the background. The issuer name in English, Central Bank of Cyprus, is inscribed at the upper right, with the denomination Ten Pounds at the lower left, all enclosed within a geometric interlace border.

Cyprus joined the European Monetary System's Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1992, but by the late 1980s the Central Bank was already under pressure to modernize its note series against rising forgery concerns — this issue was part of that transitional push. Thomas De La Rue's work here includes a security thread upgrade from earlier issues in the same series, a quiet but deliberate hardening of the note at a time when regional counterfeiting activity was escalating.

The 1987–1988 date range reflects staggered release rather than a redesign between the two years.
