Egypt's wartime currency situation was complicated by British military demand. With sterling-backed pounds flooding the country to pay Allied troops and purchase local supplies, smaller-denomination government notes like this one saw punishing circulation levels. The Survey of Egypt — better known as a cartographic institution — had been printing Egyptian currency since the 1910s, an unusual arrangement that persisted well into the postwar period.
P#167 is frequently found with heavy soil and fold damage at the corners, a known condition problem for the series rather than a grading quibble — the paper specification used during these years was noticeably thinner than prewar issues.
