Comments

The Kaufmännischer Verein — a commercial merchants' association — was among thousands of German civic and trade organizations that issued their own emergency currency during the Weimar-era Notgeld crisis of 1921. Municipal and federal money had become structurally inadequate against accelerating inflation, and associations like this one in Cottbus filled the gap with locally validated scrip accepted within their membership network. The validation stamp was the only authentication mechanism, and counterfeiting of low-denomination Notgeld was, frankly, barely worth the effort at the time.
