Additional information

Pulverfabrik Düneberg was a gunpowder and explosives factory established on the Elbe east of Hamburg, and like many German industrial concerns during the First World War, it issued its own notgeld tokens to address the chronic shortage of small change that gripped the civilian economy after 1914. Zinc was the material of necessity — copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort, leaving factories, municipalities, and transit systems to strike whatever base metal remained available.

The Hasselmann reference places this firmly within the catalogued Hamburg district issues.
