| Obverse description | Outer pearl border follows the octagonal flan edge, enclosing a circular legend reading MÜHLENTHALER DIERINGHAUSEN. Within the legend, a second inner pearl circle frames the central field, in which the large numeral '10' is prominently raised in bold relief. A small five-pointed star appears at the base of the legend between the two words. The design is plain and functional, characteristic of German notgeld emergency coinage of the early 1920s. |

Dieringhausen is a district of Gummersbach in the Bergisches Land region of western Germany, and this zinc 10 Pfennig piece is a Notgeld issue — emergency money produced by a local mill operation during the acute coin shortages that followed World War I. German municipalities, businesses, and institutions flooded the market with such pieces between roughly 1916 and 1922, when metal coinage essentially vanished from circulation as base metals were requisitioned for the war effort and its aftermath.
Zinc was the material of last resort for these issues, corroding easily and wearing poorly — which accounts for the difficulty in finding surviving examples without surface degradation.
