Issued by the Gewerkschaft Gustav, a mining cooperative operating near Dettingen am Main, this zinc notgeld token filled a gap left by wartime metal shortages that stripped small-denomination coinage from everyday circulation after 1916. Mining operations in the Main valley region relied heavily on such scrip to pay workers in fractional amounts when official coinage had effectively vanished from local commerce.
