Obverse description The Imperial German eagle (Reichsadler) displayed with spread wings, facing left, bearing on its breast the quartered Hohenzollern shield (small shield type) of the German Empire under Wilhelm II. The eagle is surmounted by the Imperial crown and flanked by elaborate scrollwork at the base. The mint mark 'A' (Berlin Mint) appears in the lower field below the eagle's tail, within a fine rope border encircling the design.
