| Reverse description | The large denomination numeral 10 dominates the upper field, with the inscription PFENNIG and the date 1917 arranged below in two lines. The central device is framed on both sides by symmetrical oak branches bearing acorns and leaves, their tips meeting at the base to form a wreath. The entire design is contained within a beaded border running along the coin's inner rim. |

Unna's 1917 iron notgeld belongs to the second wave of municipal emergency coinage, issued after the Reich's copper and nickel supplies had been redirected almost entirely to war production. By mid-1917 the German military had consumed so much base metal that even iron — already a degraded substitute — was being rationed for civilian coinage use. The two catalogue variants (Funck 556.5A and 556.5B) likely differ in die alignment or edge treatment, a common source of splitting in iron notgeld series where striking pressure caused inconsistent results across short production runs.
