| Additional information |
Teisnach, a small mill town in the Bavarian Forest, was home to a paper factory that — like hundreds of German industrial firms — began issuing its own emergency coinage during the Notgeld crisis of the early 1920s when small-denomination Reichsmark coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely. The Teisnacher Papierfabrik A.G. struck these zinc pieces to pay workers and facilitate transactions within the local economy, a practice the Reichsbank tolerated out of necessity rather than sanction.
