Additional information

Danzig's 1920 small-denomination issues were among the first coinage produced after the city was detached from Germany and reconstituted as a Free City under League of Nations protection — a direct consequence of Article 100 of the Versailles Treaty. The Free City needed its own currency almost immediately, and these bronze pieces were struck before the Danzig Mark had been formally stabilized, which is why no date appears on the coin itself.
