| Additional information |
Alb. & E. Henkels was a textile firm operating in Langerfeld, a small industrial town near Wuppertal in the Bergisches Land region — an area dense with weaving mills and metalware factories that relied heavily on notgeld during the chaotic supply disruptions of World War I. Zinc was the material of necessity; copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort by 1916, pushing municipal and corporate issuers alike toward whatever base metal remained available.
The two Mensing reference numbers suggest cataloguers have identified at least minor die or planchet variants within this issue.
