Consumer cooperative emergency money — Notgeld issued by a regional grocery and goods cooperative rather than a municipal or banking authority. The Konsumverein für Magdeburg und Umgebung was one of hundreds of cooperative societies that began issuing their own small-denomination scrip during the coin shortage of 1916–1922, accepted as payment within the cooperative's own network of stores and outlets.
Cardboard issues from cooperative societies tend to show heavier wear than municipal equivalents — they were handled daily at shop counters, not collected.
