Additional information

Halberstadt's iron Notgeld issues emerged from the acute metal shortages that followed Germany's defeat in 1918, when the Reichsbank's grip on coinage collapsed and local authorities scrambled to fill the vacuum. Landkreis Halberstadt was among the hundreds of municipal and district bodies that issued emergency coinage under that framework — iron being the material of last resort after copper and zinc had been prioritized for war production and were still tightly controlled in the immediate postwar chaos.

The Funck 185.6A designation places this within a catalogued die variety specific to the series.
