Reverse description A raised solid line rim borders the coin, with the circular legend arranged around the periphery of the field. The word NOTGELD arcs across the upper portion, flanked by two six-pointed star ornaments at left and right, with the date 1919 continuing along the upper right. The denomination numeral 10 occupies the center of the field in large, bold raised characters, while the unit PFENNIG is inscribed in an arc along the lower portion of the legend. The design is plain and functional, characteristic of emergency coinage issued during the German monetary crisis of 1919.

Additional information

Greiffenberg's 1919 iron notgeld was a direct consequence of the postwar metal shortage and the collapse of centralized currency distribution — by mid-1919, hundreds of Silesian municipalities were striking their own emergency coinage simply to keep local commerce functioning. Iron was the material of necessity, not preference; copper and nickel were still being hoarded or diverted to war-debt reckoning. Silesia's particular situation grew more complicated as plebiscite agitation intensified in the region, making even short-term monetary planning uncertain for local administrations.
