Issued by the Schoeller'sche und Eitorfer Kammgarnspinnerei — a worsted yarn spinning mill operating in Eitorf on the Sieg river — this zinc notgeld token is a product of the acute small-change shortage that paralyzed German commerce during and immediately after World War I. Large industrial employers frequently issued their own factory currency during this period, redeemable at company stores or against wages, partly to retain workers' spending within the company economy.
The Mенzel references cite two catalogue variants for this type, suggesting at least minor die or production differences exist between known specimens.
