Obverse description Within a raised inner circle, the heraldic rampant lion of Barmen faces left in the central field, depicted in bold relief standing on a decorative base. The legend STADT BARMEN curves along the upper periphery between the inner circle and the outer beaded border. Five six-pointed stars are evenly spaced along the lower arc of the border, flanking the base of the inner circle. The entire design is enclosed by a prominent beaded rim.

Reverse description The central field features the large, bold denomination numeral '10' rendered in a lined or striated style, dominating the face of the coin. Arching above the numeral across the upper field is the legend KRIEGSGELD with the date 1917 immediately below it. The word PFENNIG curves along the lower arc beneath the numeral, flanked by a six-pointed star on each side. The entire design is enclosed by a continuous beaded border running around the full circumference.
