Plathe was a small Pomeranian market town — today Płoty, in northwestern Poland — and its municipal savings bank was among thousands of local German institutions forced into emergency currency production during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1921–1923. The Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough, and the gap was filled by an explosion of Kleingeldscheine from municipalities, cooperatives, and commercial firms across Germany.

H. Susenbeth operated in Stettin as a regional printer serving Pomeranian issuers throughout the notgeld period. The four-variant series catalogued under DeNG 1#1060.1-1/4 suggests minor typographic or color differences between printings — common where a local printer ran short of paper stock mid-order.
