Eschwege, a small Hessian town on the Werra river, was among the thousands of German municipalities forced into issuing their own emergency currency as the Weimar inflation crisis stripped Reichsmark coins from circulation. The Schwarz firm in Lindenberg was a prolific Notgeld printer serving dozens of such communities simultaneously, which is worth knowing when assessing rarity — print runs were often larger than the issuing town's population might suggest.

The engraver credit to G. Diede and design to H. Graf places this squarely in the decorative Notgeld tradition, where artistic ambition frequently outpaced fiscal urgency.
