Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a bold eight-pointed star burst vignette in red and yellow, printed in an Expressionist woodcut style. Centred within the star is the city arms of Hachenburg flanked by the denomination numeral '10' on either side with the abbreviation 'Pf.' below each, and the issuer inscription 'NOTGELD DER STADT HACHENBURG' above. A three-line redemption text in German appears below the arms, followed by two manuscript facsimile signatures of the Magistrat, with the letters 'E' and 'K' visible in the lower margin and the printer's imprint 'G. Hunckel, Bremen' at the very foot.

Reverse description The reverse displays a central rectangular woodcut vignette in black ink showing an aerial view of the Cistercian abbey of Marienstatt with its Gothic church and conventual buildings set among trees. The denomination '10' appears vertically in large stylised numerals on both the left and right margins in red, and the inscription 'CISTERCIENSER-ABTEI MARIENSTÄTT' is printed in red letterpress across the upper portion. The legend 'BEI HACHENBURG' appears in bold below the vignette, with a six-digit serial number and the printer's imprint 'G. Hunckel, Bremen' at the foot, all set within a red and yellow chequered border.
