Brehna was a small Prussian town in Saxony-Anhalt, and this note is a product of the Kleingeldersatz emergency — the acute small-change shortage that gripped German municipalities in the early 1920s as inflation began dismantling the coinage supply. Two printers handled the series: H. F. Jütte in Leipzig and H. Schiebel in Bitterfeld, geographically close but commercially distinct firms, which accounts for the known variants catalogued under DeNG 1/2#160.1-4/10.
Brehna was absorbed into the town of Sandersdorf-Brehna in 2010, making the issuing authority itself now extinct.
