Obverse description The obverse carries a central vignette of a stylised town gate or castle tower rendered in colour against a decorative dark red guilloche background, flanked on either side by large numerals '10' in teal. The issuer inscription 'Stadtgemeinde Bad Kösen' runs across the top in Gothic script beneath a crenellated border, with 'Pfennig' repeated at lower left and right. The lower portion contains the issue date, signatures of the Magistrat and Stadtverordneten, and a validity clause in two side panels, all in Gothic letterpress.

Reverse description The reverse presents a central engraved vignette of the Hufeland-Solesprudel, the brine-pump machinery of the Bad Kösen saltworks, rendered in fine detail in brown tones. Large numerals '10' in teal occupy the upper left and upper right corners within coloured frame panels, with 'Pfennig' repeated along the bottom. The left panel carries the text 'Notgeld der Stadt Bad Kösen' and the right panel 'Zehn Pfennig', both in Gothic script against a yellow ground.
