Obverse description Olive-gold and blue bicolour Notgeld note printed in letterpress. The central vignette consists of a radiating sunburst pattern from which emerge two lateral pastoral scenes: a farmer ploughing with a horse-drawn implement at left, and an industrial building with a flagpole at right, with a large decorative fruit bowl at centre. The denomination '10 Pfennig' appears in bold blue numerals at upper left and upper right, with the issuing authority legend at top centre. Below the vignette, the place name, date '15.8.1921', a validity clause in italic script, and a facsimile signature of the Gemeindevorstand are printed. The printer's credit 'Entwurf und Druck von Lorsch & Nachbar, Rudolstadt' appears in small type at the lower margin.

Reverse description Teal-green and terracotta bicolour reverse printed in letterpress. The left panel carries a large stylised numeral '10' with decorative Art Nouveau scroll ornaments above and below, alongside the initial letter 'P' of 'Pfennig' in the same ornamental typeface. The right panel is occupied by a panoramic vignette of the Schaala valley, rendered in terracotta, showing the village with its church steeple set against wooded hills and a meandering river in the foreground. The issuer name 'GEMEINDE SCHAALA' is set in bold white letters on a teal banner across the top, and 'PFENNIG' in matching white letters on a teal band at the foot.
