Lewin (today Lewin Brzeski in southwestern Poland) was a small Lower Silesian market town, and this 10 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept German municipalities in 1920 as small-denomination coinage remained effectively absent from circulation. Local magistrates across the region issued their own emergency paper with minimal oversight — official stamp was often the only authentication mechanism employed, as it is here.

The stamp impression is the critical authentication point for this type. Faded or poorly struck examples are common given the improvised production conditions.
