Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion bears a rising sun between two headlands, the lower-left section displays the national key symbol, and the lower-right section features a royal palm tree. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a fasces, and flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, both tied at the base. The arc legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA runs along the upper rim, while the denomination 10 PESOS appears along the lower rim. Metallic specifications 20 G and AG 0.999 are inscribed on the left and right sides of the field respectively.

Reverse description The reverse depicts Columbus's three caravels — the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria — sailing through stylised ocean waves, commemorating the moment land was first sighted on 12 October 1492. In the upper left, a rocky coastline emerges from the horizon beneath a cloudy sky, evoking the cry of land. The exclamatory legend TIERRA, TIERRA! arcs along the upper rim, with V CENTENARIO and the date 1989 inscribed in the left field. The date 12 DE OCTUBRE and the year 1492 are integrated in large numerals along the lower portion of the field, seamlessly blending with the maritime scene.
