Paraguay's Tesoro Nacional notes of 1865 were printed domestically in Asunción under conditions of total wartime isolation. The War of the Triple Alliance had begun that year, cutting Paraguay off from European suppliers — which is precisely why this note exists as a locally produced piece rather than something ordered from Bradbury Wilkinson or another established security printer. The result is rough by contemporary standards: rudimentary typography, uneven ink distribution, and a watermark that varies noticeably between surviving examples.
The "blue type" designation distinguishes it from otherwise similar issues in the series printed in different ink colors — a cataloguing necessity given how little else separates the variants at a glance.
