Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and right talon, with wings partially spread. The eagle is flanked at the base by an oak branch to the left and an olive branch to the right, tied with a ribbon. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering against a deeply mirrored proof field.
