| Reverse description | The reverse presents a multi-scene nautical composition commemorating the Peral submarine. In the upper register, a surface vessel emitting steam is depicted navigating choppy seas alongside what appears to be a partially submerged vessel. The central register is dominated by the elongated cigar-shaped hull of the Submarino Peral, Isaac Peral's pioneering Spanish electric submarine, shown in profile with its conning tower visible, surrounded by stylized waves and seabirds. The lower register depicts the wreck of the submarine resting on the seabed amid coral growth. The dates 1887 and 1889, denoting the construction and trial periods of the vessel, appear to the lower right, while the mint year 2000 is inscribed to the lower left. The curved legend RELIQUIAS DE LA NAVEGACION arcs along the upper border, and SUBMARINO PERAL is inscribed along the lower rim. |
