| Obverse description | The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, consisting of a quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date LIBERTAD / 15 / DE / SETIEMBRE / DE / 1821, flanked by two crossed rifles and two crossed swords, all within a wreath of laurel and olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The fineness 0.900 appears in the lower left field and the date 1894 in the lower right field, with the word ESSAI incuse in the exergue at the very bottom, identifying this piece as a trial strike. |
