Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak and talon. The eagle is shown in left-facing profile with wings partially spread, rendered in fine relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. Flanking the base of the cactus are laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters.
