Cuba's "Flora y Fauna" silver program, which ran through the late 1990s and 2000s, was explicitly designed for the foreign collector market — hard currency generation, not domestic circulation. The Mastín Español appears in this series as part of a dog breeds subset, a recurring theme across Cuban commemorative issues of the period that proved reliable sellers through European distributors.
KM#891 carries a low mintage consistent with the broader program's collector-only profile. These pieces reached Cuba's economy only as export revenue; no example was ever intended to cross a Havana shop counter.
