| Additional information |
José Martí was born on January 28, 1853, making 2003 the sesquicentennial of his birth — an occasion the Cuban state marked with considerable commemorative output across multiple denominations and metals. Martí's political writings, particularly the 1892 founding of the Cuban Revolutionary Party in New York, gave the post-1959 government a nationalist intellectual framework that predated and nominally transcended the revolution itself.
KM#789 is one of several silver issues from this commemorative program, all struck to the same one-troy-ounce specification.
