Part of Mexico's long-running series celebrating the country's 31 states and one federal district, this Jalisco issue was struck at the Mexico City mint under a program that ran from 2004 through 2007. Each state received a single proof release, making the full set 32 coins. Jalisco's inclusion was hardly controversial — the state is home to tequila production, mariachi, and the city of Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest — but the series itself drew criticism for inconsistent secondary market demand, with some state issues trading at multiples of others for no reason beyond collector regional loyalty.
