| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring the royal palm within a shield flanked by an oak branch and laurel branch, surmounted by the Phrygian cap and rising sun. A curved legend above reads the country name, while the weight and fineness inscriptions are positioned to either side of the arms. The face value is displayed in the lower portion of the field. Cuba's early 1990s silver program coincided almost exactly with the collapse of Soviet subsidies — the so-called "Special Period" — when hard currency became desperately scarce and the state leaned heavily on numismatic exports to generate foreign exchange. These pieces were never intended for domestic circulation and were sold almost entirely through overseas dealers and collector networks.
The "Heroic Guerilla Fighter" title references Che Guevara's famous Alberto Korda photograph of 1960, which by the 1990s had become one of the most commercially reproduced images in the world — a fact Cuba leveraged deliberately.
