Comments

Cuba's convertible peso series was issued specifically for tourist and hard-currency transactions, operating entirely parallel to the regular Cuban peso — a dual monetary system that persisted until the unification of January 2021. The convertible peso was pegged one-to-one with the US dollar, making these notes a mechanism for capturing foreign exchange within the domestic economy rather than instruments of ordinary commerce.

Printed domestically by Impresos de Seguridad, the series is notable for keeping production entirely in-house — unusual for a small-island currency that might otherwise rely on specialist foreign security printers. The watermark is the sole listed security feature, a relatively modest specification for a note whose economic function was to substitute for hard currency.
